For PE and VC operating advisors

Start with one portco, not a portfolio-wide program.

You bring one portfolio-company scenario. I scope the highest-value AI, data, and automation opportunities and the first implementation path without turning it into a broad transformation program.

The Single-Portco AI/Data Opportunity Scan is for operators who need a fast, credible view of where AI or automation can create operational leverage in one company. It helps you test the playbook before rolling anything across the portfolio.

$12K-$18K fixed · 2-3 weeks Entry offer: Single-Portco AI/Data Opportunity Scan Best for: one company, one operating pressure, one fundable first step Output: ranked opportunities and first implementation path

20-min call · bring one portco scenario · leave with a written go/no-go · mutual NDA available before any data is shared.

Role split

You own the operating relationship. MLDeep turns the opportunity into a first technical path.

What you keep

  • Board, management, and operating partner relationship
  • Portfolio strategy, value-creation thesis, and rollout judgment
  • Commercial framing and decision ownership
  • Portfolio-level learning from the first company scenario

What MLDeep handles

  • Technical scan of AI, data, analytics, and automation opportunities
  • Prioritization against data readiness, implementation complexity, and business value
  • First implementation path with constraints and dependencies
  • Recommendation on whether to build, defer, or inspect foundations first
Scan shape

A focused scan that creates a first fundable action.

1

Start from one operating pressure

Examples: manual reporting, pipeline visibility, customer success handoffs, support triage, billing cleanup, internal KPI production, or data quality risk.

2

Map the systems and constraints

Inspect where the work happens today, what data exists, what integrations are possible, and where manual effort or decision lag shows up.

3

Rank the opportunity set

Prioritize opportunities by implementation effort, data readiness, operating leverage, and chance of producing a visible win.

4

Scope the first path

Produce a narrow implementation recommendation the operator can discuss with the management team before expanding the playbook.

Secondary resource

Portco scan brief.

A single-company scan works best when the scenario is specific. Use these prompts before a partner fit call.

Company context

Stage, team size, operating model, current systems, and the management team's appetite for change.

Operating pressure

The workflow, metric, decision, or team bottleneck creating wasted effort, risk, or missed visibility.

Data reality

Known sources, reporting tools, CRM/ERP/product systems, spreadsheets, and any existing data warehouse or BI layer.

Decision needed

What the operator needs to decide next: fund a sprint, inspect foundations, hire, defer, or package a repeatable portfolio play.

How portco data is handled

What I commit to in writing -- without overpromising.

Honest version. I am a single-practitioner consultancy. I do not carry SOC 2, E&O insurance, or a standard fund-level DPA. These are the controls you can hold me to before any portco intro:

Mutual NDA on day one

Your fund's template, the portco's template, or mine -- whichever you prefer. Signed before any system access.

Read-only by default

No writes to production systems unless explicit scope authorizes it in writing.

Single-practitioner access

No subcontractors, no offshoring, no rotating bench. One named person inside the data.

Engagement-scoped credentials

Provisioned at kickoff, revoked at handoff. No long-lived access tokens.

Engagement-end deletion

All exports, screenshots, and working files deleted within 7 days of sign-off.

Liability bounded to fees paid

Written into every SOW. Cap matches the engagement value, predictable risk shape.

Processor terms / data-handling memo PDF available before kickoff. Email me if your fund's GC needs the memo before the fit call.

Partner FAQ

What operating partners ask before booking.

How is portco data handled?
Mutual NDA before any system access (your fund's template, the portco's, or mine). Read-only by default. Single-practitioner access -- no subcontractors, no offshoring, no rotating bench. Engagement-scoped credentials provisioned at kickoff and revoked at handoff. All working files deleted within 7 days of sign-off. Liability bounded to fees paid, written into every SOW.
Do you have SOC 2, E&O insurance, or a standard DPA?
No -- single-practitioner consultancy. I do not carry SOC 2, E&O insurance, or claims I have not earned. A processor terms / data-handling memo is available before kickoff and can be papered against your fund's DPA template if required.
What does a Portco Opportunity Scan cost and how long does it take?
Most Single-Portco AI/Data Opportunity Scans land between $12,000 and $18,000 fixed, with a 2-3 week delivery window. Written into the SOW before kickoff. No hourly billing, no scope creep.
Can I see a redacted sample scan?
Yes. A redacted Single-Portco AI/Data Opportunity Scan (ranked opportunity matrix, system map, first implementation path, decision rule) is available before the fit call. Email info@mldeep.io with one line on the portco situation and I will send the closest analog.
What if you are unavailable mid-scan?
MLDeep is a single-practitioner consultancy. Domain Methods is a formal delivery partner for capacity extension. On hard-deadline scans, Domain Methods consultants can step in under MLDeep's brand and direction. You will know about this option before signing the engagement letter.
Will you pitch the portco directly after the engagement?
No. Mutual non-solicit in every engagement letter. The scan is the entire scope. If the portco wants to fund the first implementation path, the operator decides how to staff it -- including options outside MLDeep.
Next step

Bring one portfolio-company scenario.

I will help you decide whether it is ready for an opportunity scan, a narrow automation sprint, or a foundation-first assessment.
